Gummi
The Gummi Chair is a comfortable diner which is completely moulded from rubber. To make the chair ridged in some parts a slim metal frame is suspended on the inside of the mould, this than is completely encapsulated with rubber in one continuous pour. The seat and back remain flexible because there is no reinforcement in these parts. The concept was to produce a dining chair which has clear, strong lines and looks ridged. But when seated the flexible rubber shapes to your body and creates a comfortable sit, when standing up the chair bounces back into its ridged shape.
It was also a long time wish to design a chair from a single material, with no need for screws or bolds and therefore no joints between materials.
