In the seventies the dutch build the Oosterschelde sea barrier. A reaction to the 1953 flood which killed many people. The concrete sculpture is a scale model of one of the sinkable pilons that were constructed to hold the barrier doors. The project was of inmens scale and took a large national effort to complete.
